The Shelburne County Flames would like to welcome all participating teams to the 2012 tournament, named in honor of Sandy Wickens, a long time hockey volunteer in our community.
Over the years Sandy has served as coach for several teams in our area. These include the Sable Fish Packers Intermediate Team, the Barrington Ice Dogs Junior "C" Team, and of course many years as the coach of the Newellton Dogtowners of the Barrington Recreational Hockey League, where he won several championships.
Due to his recent health issues, Sandy has been unable to continue his passion for coaching. But if you stop at Tim Hortons in Barrington Passage, you can find Sandy willing to have a sports oriented conversation while enjoying a hot cup of coffee. That especially includes hockey!
A great coach and volunteer, Sandy is even more importantly a fine gentleman who always has a kind word and a gentle smile.
The Flames would like to thank Sandy for his many years of dedication and let him know that it truly is an honor to have his name on the cup!!
